Peer mentor volunteer

Yorkshire MESMAC’s Youth Activation Team supports volunteers in schools and young people’s services to highlight the importance of sexual health and wellbeing to other young people in Hull. We are looking for keen and confident young people who are interested in spreading the word about sexual health in an approachable way with their peers while expanding their own knowledge around sexual health and contraception.

Role description/requirements:

The aim of the peer mentor team is to support Yorkshire Mesmac staff in local events, training sessions, schools and other settings

• Delivering sexual health messages to individuals and groups in various settings
• Participating in information stalls and condom distribution at events
• Participating in delivering training
• Helping to create a welcome and friendly atmosphere that encourages healthy discussions around sexual health and contraception

Volunteers are not expected to provide a minimum availability commitment.

This role requires a DBS.

Character requirements/description

There is no experience necessary to become a Mesmac volunteer as all training will be provided! However, as a peer mentor volunteer you need to be 16-19 – if you are younger than this please check out our event volunteer post!

Training opportunity’s and supervision

As part of the peer education volunteer team, volunteers will be trained in the following areas:

• Safeguarding adults and children
• Volunteer induction
• Boundaries
• STIs and contraception
• HIV Awareness
• Consent
• Gender Identity and Sexuality
• Confidentiality

Arranged supervisions with named staff member:
Recorded supervisions will take place at least every 3 months, more frequently if necessary and can be requested by volunteers at any time.

Location

Yorkshire MESMAC Hull office and other sites around Hull.
